Sumo Nottingham is delighted to welcome David Smethurst as Technical Director.

With over 20 years industry experience, David brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for programming and development to the team having held roles at Gremlin Interactive, Codemasters and, most recently, Team 17.

David’s role will see him heading up the code department and leading projects in development, whilst supporting individuals to grow their skills and technical expertise.

“I’m so excited to be taking on this role as part of Sumo Nottingham – the people and the focus of developing interesting IP was really attractive to me, and I’m thrilled to be returning to working with C++ and Unreal Engine development," said David. “The main draw to the studio for me has been the passion the management have for the projects in development, and I can’t wait to discover more.”

On the appointment, Sumo Nottingham Studio Director Gary Edwards said: “We’re delighted to welcome David to Sumo Nottingham in a bumper year for our studio – we currently have several exciting projects in the pipeline, with our team expected to continue to grow throughout 2022.”

The Sumo Digital studio recently announced their involvement in a number of key projects including working with Gun Media to bring The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to life, its involvement in the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy and the development of Forza Horizon 5 (which launched last year).
